There are 6 types of membership available each with their own criteria -

Student Membership

For those engaged in training on a course approved by the BMLDA

Level 2 Membership

For therapists who have attended 25 to 50 hours of tuition covering a formal introduction to both theoretical and practical MLD with evidence of case studies completed. Certificate of Attendance or Achievement to be submitted. ITEC Lymph Drainage Massage qualification is accepted at this level.

Level 3 Membership

For therapists who have attended a course of at least 12 days; and have been successful in both theory and practical examinations with external verification. Therapists will have a sound knowledge of the lymphatic system and be able to treat clients following cosmetic surgery and non specific conditions where the lymph system is intact. Case studies are very important at this stage.

Level 4 Membership

Level 4 therapists are qualified to treat most lymphatic conditions including simple lymphoedema. To gain entry at this level there must be evidence of theoretical and practical knowledge of treating a variety of different diseases and conditions. A portfolio should be submitted to include a 3000 word assignment on an agreed topic relevant to MLD. More days training will be completed.

Level 4 trained therapists are then encouraged to continue their training, attending further specialized advanced Lymphatic Drainage Courses and Workshops. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is expected.

The BMLDA is committed to developing and maintaining awareness, standards of practice and further education in the treatment of Manual Lymph Drainage
